After your computer boots and loads it displays PCWin Recovery instructions page.
Step 1 – Selecting your Windows Installation
PCWin Recovery automatically scans your computer and list all Windows installation. Most computers have one operating system installed. So, typically PCWin Recovery will list one Windows installation. Depending on your Windows version- you’ll see Windows 10, 8, Windows 7, Window Vista, etc. listed in the Windows version column. In the image below ‘Windows 7 Ultimate’ is listed.
There are cases where a computer from computer manufacture like Dell, Acer, etc. will include a recovery installation. Do not select a name similar to ‘Pre-install Windows Recovery’, ‘Windows RE’, etc. listed in the Windows version column. Selecting recovery installation will not harm your computer or Windows installation, but it also won’t help you reset your Windows password.
Another opportunity for confusion is dual boot computers. Microsoft provides support for dual and multi boot systems. If you see multiple Windows versions listed, like ‘Windows 8’ and ‘Windows 7’ then your computer may have 2 Windows installations. It’s OK- just select the installation that includes your user account and continue.
Rarely, PCWin Recovery will not list any Windows installation. PCWin Recovery will not list a Windows installation for few reasons. One- your computer does not include a Windows folder, your computers hard drive is fully encrypted, or your computer requires a hard drive controller driver.
Step 2 – Selecting User Accounts
PCWin Recovery displays all the user accounts after you select your Windows installation. Seeing your Windows user accounts listed is confirmation that you are moments away from resetting your Windows password. Select the user account and select the ‘Clear Password’ button.
Entering your registration information
Your PCWin Recover registration information is sent to your primary PayPal email address. You activate your account and your email registration is sent immediately to your email inbox. Use your PCWin Recovery registration information when prompted.
Password Reset confirmation
PCWin Recovery x64 Password Reset edition prompts you to confirm your selection. Selecting ‘OK’ performs a number of actions. First it creates a backup of your current settings. So, you can ‘undo’ any changes later.
X64 Password Reset removes Windows logon restrictions that can prevent you from logging on with your user account. Finally it removes the password for the user account. After selecting to reset your Windows password, you can log on to Windows without entering a password.
Password reset and reboot time
After you reset your Windows password, PCWin Recovery display the reboot dialog. Remove the PCWin Recovery boot CD/DVD or USB flash drive and select ‘Reboot’.
Wrapping up and getting back into your computer
Once you reset your Windows password and remove the PCWin Recovery boot media – you’re ready to log on to your computer. If your computer has one user account, Windows will automatically log on with the default log on. If you have multiple user accounts then select the user account and you can log on without a password.
